Burton UTC

Spectrum was appointed by main contractor BAM Construction, to help transform Burton and South Derbyshire University Technical College (UTC).

The £8.6 million development, designed by Bond Bryan Architects, has renovated the interiors of the original listed building alongside constructing a contemporary, modern extension to the side of the property. The existing building and new extension, creates 5400 sqm of inspiring learning and workspace for UTC students and staff alike.

The work carried out by Spectrum includes Marley Eternit Equitone fibre cement rainscreen cladding, plank profile soffit cladding and a steel framing system to the new extension.

The Architect required a secretly fixed facade and Spectrum were able to achieve this by using an advanced elastic bonding technology to adhere the panels to the aluminium support system which eliminated the need for any visible fixings.

The red cladding panels complement the brick finish of the existing building as well as the surrounding properties, creating a crisp, cohesive and contemporary construction.
